First, it’s important to understand why your Havanese is barking. Is it because they are excited, scared, or in pain? Once you know the reason for the barking, you can begin to work on training them not to do it excessively.
If your Havanese is barking because they are excited, try to redirect their attention with a toy or treat. If they are barking out of fear, begin slowly introducing them to the thing they are afraid of (e.g., another dog) and Reward them for remaining calm. Finally, if your Havanese is in pain, make sure to take them to the vet so that they can get the proper treatment.
In addition to addressing the root cause of the excessive barking, you can also train your Havanese not to bark excessively by using positive reinforcement. When they bark appropriately (e.g., when someone comes to the door), give them a treat or verbal praise.
